Astel HIV®
Rapid Test for HIV- 1 and HIV- 2
The human immunodeficiency
virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) epidemic continues to
pose a great challenge to public health. It is important to seek testing to
know one’s own status. There are now service packages that can enable one to
live a full life with the virus if found positive. If found negative, there are
services too that can be accessed to remain negative.
In sub-Saharan Africa the
virus that causes AIDS exists as two related types: HIV-1 and HIV-2. The infections
elicit the production of specific antibodies to either HIV-1 or HIV-2 in the
individual which can be detected as means of diagnosis.
Astel HIV® is an in vitro, visually read, qualitative
immunoassay for the detection of antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV 2 in human serum,
plasma or whole blood.
The assay is a lateral
immunochromatographic test for the qualitative detection of antibodies to HIV-1
and HIV-2 in blood, plasma or serum. The test is highly specific and sensitive.
